The Twins downed the KT Wiz four games to one in the Korean Series for its first championship since 1994. Former major-leaguer Austin Dean hit .314/.376/.517 with 23 homers and 95 RBI for the Twins to power the offense while Hong Chang-ki hit .332/.444/.412 and scored 109 runs. Adam Plutko, another former MLB player, started 21 games and had a 2.41 ERA and 1.184 WHIP in 123.1 innings.

The big news for San Diego is the team debut of right-hander Dylan Cease. The right-hander finished second in the American League Cy Young voting in 2022 before a rough 2023 campaign and was acquired from the Chicago White Sox for right-handed reliever Steven Wilson and three of the organization's top 10 minor-league prospects, right-handers Drew Thorpe and Jairo Iriarte and outfielder Samuel Zavala.
The trade was announced moments before the team plane was set to leave for Seoul and Cease was added to the traveling roster for the trip at the last minute.
The Padres took advantage of Moon Dong Ju, a 20-year-old right-hander for the Korean national team, scoring the only run in Sunday's game on a wild pitch after walking the bases loaded in the first inning.
